Courses

Do you want to learn Revit or Robot from scratch? Or further improve your skills? Is there a topic you always wanted to explore? Here is a recommended list of free, high quality learning resources mostly authored by Autodesk affilated professionals.

Revit

Product help

The official product documentation is well structured. If you hit F1 inside Revit, it can help landing directly on the specific section related to your context.

Get started guides

Inside the product help there are great video tutorials. They are easy to understand and compact video guides both for getting started with Revit or exploring higher level workflows.

Structural Design

This section provides technical details behind all the various structural specific tools in Revit, including steel and reinforcement modeling.

Customer Success Learning Hub

A standalone website from Autodesk with a slightly different perspective. This is a goal oriented official learning site, featuring workflows that might be divided between different Autodesk products. They call them “learning paths”, keeping things short and concise, you can learn best practices and key workflows in only 15 minutes a day.

Structural Engineering Learning Paths

A recommended course on structural engineering, including:

  • Project Setup and Start-up – Learn how to build a template that can be used for the creation of a structural model ready for Analysis in Robot
  • Co-Author Structural Models in Revit – Learn better ways to collaborate to be more efficient with BIM as a structural engineer.
  • Create analytical models in Revit – Learn how to apply boundary conditions, check member releases, define loads and combinations, and review and adjust the analytical model.
  • Perform Structural Analysis in Robot – Learn how to import Revit data to Robot, analyze the design, and update the Revit model with changes.
  • Detailing Structural Models – Steel – Learn the interoperable workflows between Autodesk Revit Detailing Structural Models – Concrete – Explore the best practices for continuing with the BIM workflow into the detailing stage of a project.

Detailing Structural Models – Concrete

How to Make the Most of Rebar Detailing using Revit

In this class, you will learn techniques and best practices for rebar modeling and detailing using Revit. Hosted by Ovidiu Paunescu, who is a Senior Product Owner at Autodesk, where he coordinates the development of features that expand Revit’s capabilities in rebar modeling and detailing.

To Rebar or Not to Rebar: That Is the BIM Question

How many times have you heard, “Why do we have to model all these rebars?” or “Modeling rebars is time consuming!” or something similar? This class will discuss the return of rebars modeling investment, presenting several lessons learned by an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractor.

Goin’ Big with Rebar in Revit Structure

Recorded in 2015, but still relevant. The class shows how to manage a large rebar model and shop drawings for large building construction projects in Revit software. Using a 2000-plus ton rebar model for a $1 million, San Francisco, mixed-use, mid-rise project as an example.
